Family Portrait is a long term project encompassing photography, filmmaking, collecting and publishing to explore the idea of what a family is. In the absence of living queer and trans ancestors we often have to turn to archives to find our hand me downs and intergenerational knowledge. This project tries to bring those findings into the present, weaving them between images from the artist’s childhood and present day life. In this way the project works like a patchwork quilt, tended to by many hands, to form an image of life lived in all its nuance.
